Summer Shake Up 2023

This year we got to host TWO summer shake up weeks! We had an absolute blast exploring Alamito Ranch and learning some gardening skills. These two weeks were 4 day recreational and educational camps on Alamito Ranch. We partnered with TPWD, NRCS, and Dixon Water Foundation for the students to experience and learn about survival skills, native plants and animals of the region, soil, and water. Students explored the springs on the ranch and learned about the importance of water in the desert. Students learned about soil health by prepping garden beds and testing the soil, the importance of water by installing irrigation, the depth and space that seeds need to sprout (varies for different plants), the students got to taste homegrown plants, and take their own plants home as well to nurture.
